UPDATE: According to Judge James Meredith, Precinct 3, the autopsy revealed the cause of death being cardiomegaly – abnormal enlargement of the heart.
No new updates to the death that occurred in TJC dorms and no foul play is suspected, according to Justice of Peace James Meredith, Precinct 3.
A TJC student, Na’Khyria
Lampkin, was pronounced dead at 8:30 p.m. on Sept. 14, after a call was issued
to the TJC Police Department about an unresponsive female student at one of the
residence halls.
Lampkin was found at
Crossroads Hall on campus. Emergency medical services was called immediately
and arrived to evaluate Lampkin.
The Investigating Officer
Mike Gray, TJC campus officer, reported Lampkin was found deceased in her bed
in the dorm room and was found face up under covers in bed with no visible
injuries.
Forensic medical
management is scheduled to review Lampkin’s medical records, and Meredith
ordered a toxicology report and a post-mortem examination to determine the
cause of death. Meredith said, “it will take 4 to 5 weeks to get back,” and
will review toxicology report at that time.
TJC released a press statement
on Sept. 15, the day following Lampkin’s death, and it stated, “the TJC Police
Department will complete a thorough investigation.”
TJC notified Lampkin’s
family, and members of TJC and some administrative staff met the family on
campus to offer support.
The press statement from
TJC also stated,
“TJC community is deeply saddened by the student’s death and extends its
deepest sympathy to the family. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to
utilize the campus resources available to aid in this time of grief.”
Before
attending TJC this fall, Lampkin graduated from Terrell ISD. In memorial of
Lampkin, Terrell ISD posted on its Facebook page, “She was loved by her
classmates and teachers and known for her infectious smile. Our thoughts and
prayers are with Na’Khyria’s family and friends during this difficult time.”
