The International Game Developers Association has started “Gaming for Good,” which is an event used to raise money and other items for people in need. The club hosted its first event on Sept. 6 where it raised around $50 and a few food items and school supplies to help students in need. At the second event, club members raised almost triple that amount.
“The main focus for the charity is to not just raise the money to help the charities that we’ve picked but to raise awareness of them, too,” said Kaitlyn Vest, vice president of IGDA.
Cody Logan, president of IGDA, has created these events in hopes to raise money for the East Texas Crisis Center. IGDA hosts two charity events a month. Upon arrival, attendees pay a minimum of $5 and/or bring nonperishable food items, school supplies and health care products. IGDA wants to show people that “charities aren’t always just about ‘We need money,’” Vest said.
The next “Gaming for Good” event will be from noon to 3 p.m. Oct. 4 at the Vaughn Conservatory Building.

Good job on getting resources to help people in need and how y’all used another way to collect supplies instead of just money.

I find this article very helpful for spreading more information about this event and organization since I hadn’t heard of it before.

I think this is a really good cause. I like that this charity is something different. I think you could’ve added more detail as to what happens at the events. I’ll have to check it out.

I enjoy the fact that you are stressing that money is not the only thing needed to provide aid and assistance to those in need. I hope more people become aware of your message and that you raise many non perishables for others who need it.

Very cool to see fund raising events branch out from the norm and find unique and engaging ways to draw in the public. This could easily grow into something quite substantial.
