Going into this movie, I was expecting a LOT. As the final chapter (technically the second installment of the final chapter) of the epic Hunger Games saga, I anticipated for this movie to blow me away. Much to my dismay, it left me in a rather neutral mood.

Plot summary: The story for this film is pretty simple, if you really… really, really generalize it. Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) takes a squad of teammates [mostly just Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) and Gale (Liam “Little-Thor” Hemsworth), everyone else is forgettable] to battle through the many traps and tests through the city with the intention of reaching the Capitol and killing President Snow (Donald Sutherland).

My plotline opinion: This movie could have been a lot more enjoyable (and easier to understand) if there weren’t so many moving parts. I kept hearing all these mentions of names that I couldn’t place a face to, and there were tons of different titles of every little thing. Loyalists, rebels, pods, mutts, etc. were just a few of the terms thrown around willy-nilly. Sadly, this movie definitely didn’t feel like a series finale. Especially not one as big as the Filling-but-not-satisfying Games. The last movie in a series is supposed to make you feel like your entire life has been leading up to this moment. But sadly, it didn’t. I mean, it feels like it would have been a decent mid-series movie, but it just didn’t live up to the caliber that a finale should have. It felt … rushed.

Acting: You can complain all you want about the unreal-ism, unnecessary complexity, or even idiocy of the Hunger Games movies, but one thing they have actually done well is acting. Excluding J-Law’s easy job description of “Don’t smile,” the rest of the acting was very convincing.

Conclusion: Although the plot line was somewhat disappointing, the acting, and overall quality of the film mildly resurrected it.

I’d like to thank Times Square Cinema for making this review possible.

When you come up to the ticket booth… I don’t know, tell them your name is Bayonkadonk or something.
