She was a walk-on who ended up earning a scholarship to play basketball.
Tajan Snowden is starting her second year at TJC and is playing post for the women’s basketball team.
“I love playing for the basketball team at TJC it’s very nice and Coach Jones is a great coach.” Snowden said.
Snowden graduated high school in 2008 from Palestine. While Snowden was at Palestine she played and started for the women’s varsity team. From there, she came to TJC and made the basketball team as a walk-on. Snowden decided to come to TJC because she likes Tyler and it would give her a chance to get away from home.
While going to school at TJC, she has been majoring in nursing. She hopes to one day be a nurse at the children’s hospital in Dallas. When Snowden graduates she plans to hopefully get a scholarship to a nursing school and to play basketball. When she is not at practice or in school she is usually studying.
After a disappointing season for the women in 2008, Snowden’s goal for this season is to help the team by working to improve her shot.
“I have improved a lot and feel better about this season,” Snowden said.
She has also noticed what it’s like to play at the junior college level.
“I think it’s a good step for anybody who is ready for the next level because it prepares you for the next level. Going to a junior college prepares you mentally and physically,” Snowden said.
With Coach Jones leading her, Snowden feels Jones helps the team in many ways.
“She’s not only our coach but she helps us prepare ourselves for the future and not just our future in basketball but our overall future. She actually cares about us,” Snowden said.
