The TJC baseball team has held their annual media day. Media day signals the start of the new season.
The Apaches are excited to start the season coming off a national championship victory.
“Coming off a national championship, everybody is excited to be able to have another shot at it,” said freshman outfielder Jared Pauley. “We’re looking forward to the season and trying to do it again.”
This season is very different because there are only eight returning players from last year’s team.
“We had a lot of turnover. We lost a lot of depth. A lot of these guys are new guys,” said Head Coach Doug Wren.
The goal is to repeat as national champions.
“Each and every year, our goal is to take steps as a team and work towards our ultimate goal of winning a national championship,” said Wren. “Starting this Friday we get to start taking some steps in moving that direction.”
The key to another national championship for TJC is timing.
“We just got to take it game by game and be able to play at high level, consistently,” said Wren. “Just like any post-season run we have to get hot at the end of the season and you got to be playing good at the right time.”
Because of the success last season, this season will be exciting to watch.
“We’ve worked really hard over the fall and we all have the same goal, so this spring should be exciting,” said Pauley.
Based on a preseason poll by National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), TJC is ranked No. 1 in their division.
