With Spring underway and spring cleaners ravaging their closets, the good news for students is, there is sure to be a new shipment of donations at the Goodwill store.
Goodwill has compiled a list of spring cleaning tips that will help the community clean out their junk but also give it away for a good cause.
“We use the spring cleaning tips we posted online as a good way to get donations.” said Wanda Welling, Director of Donated Goods for Goodwill.
Goodwill is a reasonably priced resale shop that gives members of the community with mental and physical disabilities a job and a portal to get into the work force. The revenue generated from the sales at Goodwill goes towards job and social training of the Goodwill employees.
“A lot of people don’t realize that shopping at Goodwill helps the people right here in East Texas,” said Marcia Floyd, marketing consultant for the Goodwill.
The warm and friendly atmosphere provides a pleasant shopping experience. The inexpensive pricing makes Goodwill an ideal place for college students who are on a limited budget to shop.
“When deciding what donations to put out on the floor we look at what’s trending and whether the item can be repurposed,” said Welling.
Items such as vintage clothing are trending right now and lots of college students want to shop in style and at an affordable rate. Goodwill has different selections of vintage items ranging from clothing to antiques.
“I shop at Goodwill for old fashion clothes and stuff that’s trending, I shop for less but it’s still fashionable and affordable,” said Cordasia McGee, TJC freshman.
There are also donation opportunities; Goodwill accepts anything from a pair of shoes, an old denim jacket, to picture frames and couches. One man’s junk can be another man’s treasure.
