Prospective students get sneak peek

Prospective Tyler Junior College Students and their families will receive a glimpse of the campus and campus life on Saturday, April 26 at the 3rd Apache Preview Day.

Apache Preview Day allows the students and their families to see the different sides of the TJC community. The first official Apache Preview Day was held in the fall of 2006. It was originally held only in the fall but after 427 students and their families registering last semester, it is being offered this spring as well. There are about 825 students and their family members expected to show for the event this spring.

“The purpose is to showcase what TJC has to offer the student, and get our name out there,” said Craig Turnage, director of enrollment management.

The day is designed to give the student and family ad insight into the different programs and departments of TJC, and help make the transition from high school to college more family friendly. Students and their families are expected to come from through out Smith County and many places like Dallas, Houston, Louisiana, and Oklahoma.

The day will begin at 9 a.m. with check-in and end at 3 p.m. with a housing reception at Ornelas Residential Hall. During this time students will be broken into three different groups to talk about financial aid, scholarships, student life and housing.

Students and their families will be given tickets to the Apache baseball game at Mike Carter Field. At the baseball game there will be a tailgate party with BBQ provided by Spring Creek Barbeque. This is all provided to the students and their families free of charge.

Last fall many of TJC’s clubs, organizations and departments took part in Preview Day. This year many of the same clubs, organizations and departments are expected to turn out this year as well.

TJC’s bookstore will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to hold a sidewalk sale, giving students a chance to purchase TJC apparel.

Registration for Apache Preview Day Spring 2008 is over, however contact the office of Enrollment at 903-510-2523 for any questions and/or scheduling a campus tour.
