UPDATE: Police investigating shooting by Sledge Hall

By Julia Contarelli

According to the Campus Police Crime Log the weapon involved in the deadly conduct incident, on TJC campus, is a 40 caliber Smith & Wesson.

Tyler PD and campus police were at the right side of Sledge Hall investigating a bullet hole in the air conditioning unit at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Although Tyler PD is investigating, Public Information Officer, Don Martin said, this is not their case. TJC campus police are in charge.

Austin Hall contributed to the this report.

TJC police are investigating whether a shooting took place outside a residence hall late Monday night. Police responded to a disturbance at 11:42 p.m. Monday at Sledge Hall.

According to the TJC crime log, “Campus Police responded to Sledge regarding a disturbance, reported by hall staff, involving a TJC resident student and other unidentified male subjects. Investigation continues.”

The report was classified as Deadly Conduct, which indicates that a gun might have been involved.

TJC officials would not confirm that a shooting took place, and said the police report wouldn’t be available until Wednesday. However, students who live around Sledge reported worried friends calling to ask if they are okay.

“We got emails, and they (RAs) told everybody to stay inside,” said Zipporah Smith, TJC student resident.

RAs  and residents were instructed not to talk to the press, and Campus Police declined a request for an interview citing the ongoing investigation.

“Nobody was arrested…nobody was injured,” said Kimberly Lessner, Executive Director of Marketing, Media and Communications.

We will provide more details on this story Wednesday morning.
