Volleyball team serving up tough competition

The Tyler Junior College Volleyball team is starting the season with a top fifteen ranking in the National Junior College Athletic Association Poll.

As of press time, the Lady Apaches were 23-5 to start the 2007 season.

“We deserve it, we have been working hard. I hope we can get further in the rankings this season,” said

Erica Weden, defensive specialist for the Lady Apaches.

Heading in to the match against nationally ranked Blinn, Coach Dana Hatch says she was optimistic about her team’s start.

“We have only lost to a #4 team and a #7 team,” said Hatch heading in to the rivalry game against

Blinn.

“We haven’t beaten them in a few years. We all want to go far,” said Weden.

Despite a 3-0 loss to Blinn, the team is still moving up in he national polls.

Weden says the team has been working hard to start the season on a good note.

“We have gelled as a team. I think we can get pretty far,” said Weden.

Coach Hatch says there are a few new transfers bringing experience to the team this year along with a

new group of freshmen entering the program.

“Our Freshmen are really helping us. They are coming in experienced,” said Hatch.
