The No. 2 TJC volleyball team lost a pair of matches to No. 1 Blinn on the final day of the Region XIV tournament Sunday at Wagstaff Gym to finish as the tournament runner-up.
However, the Apache ladies (31-4) still qualified for the national tournament Nov. 21-23 in Casper, Wyo. TJC will make its second-straight national tournament appearance.
The Apache ladies opened the tournament with a 3-1 victory against Wharton Community College on Friday. On Saturday, TJC defeated Trinity Valley Community College 3-0 and Laredo Community College 3-0.
On Sunday, TJC lost to Blinn 3-1 but the teams had to play again because it was the Apache ladies’ first loss of the tournament. Blinn won that final match 3-0.
With the win over Laredo, the Apache ladies clinched a berth in the final of the regional tournament and a spot in the national tournament since two teams from the Region advance.
TJC and Blinn earned those spots before even playing each other on Sunday.
All four of TJC’s losses this season have come to Blinn.
