The Tyler Junior College Vaughn Library has undergone renovations this summer to improve the students’ library experience. The updates include five new study rooms, additional seating options and the relocation of the National Honor Society room to the second floor.
Raven Johnston, the library’s instructional and outreach services librarian, said the library strives to make updates.
“The renovations aim to give students what they actually need, based on their feedback,” Johnston said.

Students use new facilities, which include National Honor Society room, study room, and first floor study area.
The new study rooms are supplied with dry erase boards, desks and trash cans, providing a quieter space for students to focus on their work. Freshman Kylie Reyes from Odessa uses the study rooms to get her work done.
“They’re set up in a location that just really makes sense. There’s not really people walking back and forth, which provides a quieter space for me to do my homework and to get work done,” Reyes said.
In addition to the study rooms, the library has introduced more seating on both the first and second floors, with updated furniture designed to create a more comfortable environment. The library’s aesthetic has also received attention with fresh paint and improved lighting.
In addition to the physical improvements, the library has expanded its book collection. The library added a new classics collection on the first floor, featuring literature commonly found in the English course syllabus.
The motivation behind the renovations was to support the needs of students by providing more resources. During student surveys, there was a high demand for study rooms.
“We always welcome feedback at the library. If anyone has suggestions on things they want added, we’re always here to help and listen,” Johnston said.
