Kennedy Rose has been playing soccer ever since she could run around and kick a ball.
After playing at Brook Hill for six years, this upcoming season she will be part of the TJC women’s soccer team.
“My favorite part about soccer has to be the competitiveness about it. You’ve got to have the will to win.” said Rose. “I love the feeling when I’m giving it all I’ve got and leaving it all out on the field.That and who doesn’t love to score a goal every now and then.”
The Brook Hill women’s soccer team was only started four years ago and has already won two state championships. Coach David Collins started the program and won TAPPS Division III Coach of the Year in 2013.
The championship wins won’t stop when Rose gets to TJC. The TJC women’s soccer team, which was started six years ago by Rose’s dad Corey, has been to the National Tournament four times.
“Girls that buy into our system of play and discipline of program” is what Coach Rose thinks makes the team so successful.
They have two national championships, one runner up, and one final four appearance.
“I’m looking forward to winning a national title with my dad the most,” said Rose. “I’m also looking forward to being on the team with all the girls and getting to know all of them and playing with them.”
Kennedy isn’t the only one excited. Her dad is as well.
“I’m very excited about having Kennedy come to TJC. She has the characteristics we are looking for in student athletes.” said Rose. “I know she will work hard and give everything she can.”
According to Time Magazine, soccer is the most popular sport for women among NCAA schools.
“Soccer in Tyler and around the country has been steadily increasing in popularity.” said Coach Rose.
TJC and UT-Tyler both have a women’s soccer team along with almost every local high school in the Tyler area.
Soccer is also the world’s most popular sport. It is played in over 200 countries and by more than 250 million players.
“I can definitely see why soccer is such a popular sport, it is fun to play and also a ton of fun to watch,” said Hope Cooper, Brook Hill junior and member of the Lady Guard soccer team.
“Not all sports are as fun to watch as they are to play and soccer is one of the rare ones that is.”

Interesting to see a well written article about one of my favorite sports, soccer. As the writer of the article pointed out, interest in soccer is steadily grow in the United States. During the World Cup, soccer drew those of us who love the sport and also those who didn’t even know it existed. Being a soccer parent, the passion the kids have to give it all the have. It would not surprise me to see more and more girls involved in the sport.
