Tyler offers variety of nightlife for college students
The college nightlife experience, for many people, is nothing like the movies. Students may end up spending most of their free time at home and scrolling through their phones. These students may just not know what there is to do around the city.

Students who have been in Tyler throughout their college career at Tyler Junior College may not be aware of the nightlife. Sarah Sundholm, a freshman majoring in American Sign Language Interpreting, has lived near Tyler most of her life.
“There is a lot of things to do in Tyler, some things that I don’t know about,” Sundholm said. “Main things that I do know is we have bowling at the Green Acres bowling alley. I love that place. It has all the arcades and stuff. There’s the mall. I think the mall is a great place to hang out with your friends.”
Often students who are not involved in the nightlife either stay in their dorm or try to stay out of Tyler by going home on the weekends. Jaime Grantham, a freshman majoring in theatre, talks about her experience.
“I just go on campus, and then I tend to go home, so I don’t know what all there is,” Grantham said.

There are places that attract some college students such as Board and Bites Cafe and The Board Room Tyler. Both of these places are board game cafés that host competitive events and have private rooms. Their prices to rent the board games range from $5 per person at Board and Bites to $20 for unlimited person play at The Board Room Tyler. Board and Bites Cafe also hosts college nights every Tuesday where showing a student ID allows students to play for free.
“We were just popping in just to see what they’re all about. It’s a really neat little coffee shop, little area they have, like bookshelves filled with games that you can play,” said Sundholm, about her experience at Board and Bites Cafe.
The college nightlife continues as clubs throughout Tyler host college nights meant for students. Cowboys, Country River Club, and Brick’s Bar and Grill host college nights for students in Tyler. These nights allow students to get in free before a certain time of night and hire a variety of DJs.

“I think I have heard of Cowboys before, but all the rest of them I have not,” said Sundholm as she explains her knowledge of clubs in Tyler.
The nightlife still has more to offer as Tyler hosts Rose City Comedy with prices ranging from $5 to $25 depending on the event that is being offered.
Ohayo Sushi has also used their placement in Tyler to start raves that Sub.Conscious hosts with a variety of themes.
Tyler Bingo has also been a part of the community for over 50 years with both electronic and paper bingo, game prices ranging from $5 to $45.
