The Tyler Junior College Student Senate hosted an opening ceremony and then a tree planting on the TJC campus to commemorate Arbor Day, a celebration that honors the planting and maintenance of trees. 

In honor of Arbor Day, over 250 TJC staff, students and community members came together on the TJC Central Campus on Jan. 31 to plant trees.

The event, which was organized by TJC, City of Tyler, the Tyler Trees Committee, the Texas A&M Forest Service, and Keep Tyler Beautiful, featured the planting of 50 new trees to TJC’s landscaping, replacing others that had been destroyed by weather-related disasters and aging. 

TJC’s Fifth Street entrance was lined for more than 80 years by many of the fallen trees that were lost in recent years.

The new trees contained a variety of species, including Dogwood, Elm, Sycamore, Maple, Mulberry and Red Oak.
