It’s surreal to think my time at The DrumBeat has come to an end. The time I’ve spent here has been invaluable, and I’ve learned and grown so much.

I’ve come a long way from the trial-by-fire introduction I had to The Drumbeat in the fall of my freshman year, to being Managing Editor and News Anchor later that semester. To my surprise, I’m ending my time here as the Editor-in-Chief, News Anchor and News Director, and it’s all felt as wild as it sounds. I’ve done more in these two years than I ever expected to and learned twice as much.

Every day brought new opportunities to learn, and chief amongst the lessons I’ll take with me into the next phase of my life is to trust in myself. My faith in my abilities has grown exponentially, and I can’t say I would be the person I am becoming had I not joined. I’ll be forever grateful for the experiences I’ve been blessed to have with my staff and advisors, and I’m proud of myself for leaping into something new.

My advice to those I leave behind is to take the scary chance, do the tough thing, learn as much as you can from everyone you can and trust yourself. You can do more than you think.
