Tyler Junior College claimed the SWJCFC playoffs Championship title, for the first time since 2000, in a game against Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College. TJC beat NEO (33-14).
“It’s just showing that we are moving, for the program, in the right direction,” Tanner Jacobs, TJC Apaches Head Coach said. “You become a champion before you win the championship, and I feel like these guys have done that in the way that they worked and approached this season.”
The last time TJC claimed the SWJCFC title was also against NEO in the year 2000 with a score of (23-21). With TJC’s undefeated record of (11-0) they now move to the semifinals as one more step towards the national championship and one step closer to beating the 1960s TJC Apache’s record of (12-0).
“Just for the history of TJC, I’m really glad to see, you know, the band, and cheer, and all those guys, come out and support us,” said Tre Guerra, the Apaches quarterback and member of the Apaches leadership team. “It’s really cool to see how the university or the schools come together as one, the culture’s building.”
TJC finished the first quarter with a lead of (14-0). In the second quarter NEO gained some traction with a quarter ending score of (17-14). The third quarter ended with the Apaches up (27-14). In the final quarter TJC took the win with a score of (33-14).
