The Tyler Junior College Apaches went head to head with Navarro’s Bulldogs with TJC ending the game six points ahead (20-14) and stopping Navarro from scoring in the end of the last quarter mere yards from the end zone.
“We’ve secured the No. 1 seat in the playoffs, so we will host both the semifinal and the final, given that we win that one for the championship in our league,” TJC Apaches Head Coach Tanner Jacobson said.
This year, TJC will move on from Navarro with an undefeated winning streak of (9-0).
In the first half of the game, TJC and Navarro tied (7-7) and remained there until moving into the third quarter when Navarro took the lead (7-14). In the fourth quarter, TJC brought their A-game and not only caught up but surpassed Navarro with a game ending score of (20-14).
“We continue to persevere,” Tyson Wilson, safety said. “I know we were down late in the game, and we made a rally back in the fourth quarter. We were always encouraging each other, and never gave up hope.”
In 2024, TJC played Navarro but did not win that game. TJC lost with a score of (24-49).
“Last year, I was the safety here. My first year playing, we lost two times to them. First game we had it, but it just wasn’t in our hands,” Wilson said. “In the second game, I got knocked out of the game in the middle of the game. So it was really a coming home moment to finally get a win against a team that I haven’t beat.”
