College baseball is more than just a game, it is a brotherhood of athletes that come together to play a game they love. Each player carries with them a story — one of passion, resilience and unwavering determination.
Student-athletes at TJC have what it takes to be able to balance their academics while preparing for games each week. Finding the perfect equilibrium between academics and athletics poses a challenge.
“The classes here aren’t too hard, so that’s pretty good, ” freshman corner infielder Grayson Lincecum said. “Taking advantage of our study halls” helps Lincecum complete his work and have a solid balance between school and sports.
Although managing their time is a lesson every student needs to learn, student athletes do not struggle to discover their love for the game. Engaging in college sports is a source of joy and fulfillment fueled by the individual’s passion.
“I started playing baseball as soon as I could pick up a bat or pick up a ball and throw it, probably before kindergarten,” sophomore pitcher Sam Peterson said. “I think it’s just something that grew inside of me from a young age.”
Along with their love for the game, competing in college sports strengthens unforgettable bonds and connections with both coaches and fellow teammates.
“It’s really great being out here and being with these guys; I just really love coming in everyday,” freshman pitcher Colton Cross said. “I’ve been able to make really good bonds and make some really good friends.”
Balancing a passion for their sport despite challenging games or practices can be tough for athletes, yet the presence of supportive teammates and inspiring coaches can make all the difference. A strong support system provides the foundation for personal growth and success both in life and in the sport.
“Being out here with the same group of guys everyday makes it enjoyable, and I wouldn’t trade it for the world,” freshman outfielder Troy Johnson shared. “Coach Wren is really good at making practice fun while we still get our work in.”
From t-ball to the collegiate level, baseball remains a dynamic and evolving sport. As individuals prepare to explore opportunities in college, the process can become overwhelming.
“Never give up on yourself and don’t ever underestimate yourself,” sophomore pitcher Gage Bellatti said. “I think it’s in everyone’s best interest to have a mindset of passion, growth and just being a hard worker. I’m blessed to be in the position I’m in.”
